Tabea put her PA and language skills to great use when she joined us in an administrative role in 2011. She’s been surprised by the opportunities working at Lidl has afforded her, is looking forward to the future and excited by the challenges which lie ahead.

When did you join Lidl?

I started off in 2011 in an admin role within the Food Promotions team. I progressed in that team over the years and then I joined admin in the Food Buying Export team in March 2015. Now, I’m the Assistant Team Manager.

Why did you join Lidl?

I am German, so I knew about Lidl from back home where I grew up. I was really keen to work for Lidl. Of course, we've grown massively over the years since I joined. It’s absolutely amazing to see what we do as a company… for our customers and also for our employees.  I’ve really loved seeing every part of the growth and being a part of the success of the company.

What do you do now?

At the moment I’m an Assistant Team Manager for the export team in buying admin. I'm responsible for a team of four and we look after all the items which we buy in the UK to export to other countries – which includes twenty-eight European countries and the U.S.

What do you like about it?

We export UK items, so my team gets to work with all the other countries. We have a very close working relationship with Lidl International Headquarters. Launching in the U.S. was a huge new project for us and we played our part in making sure everything went smoothly and that items arrived in the U.S. I’m really proud to see our stock in different stores around Europe or in the U.S - like if I go on holiday somewhere in Italy and visit a Lidl store, I might see they're selling the cheese that we exported. It's very nice to see the finished product on the shelf in a different country.

What is your biggest achievement?

I think my biggest achievement so far has been building and managing my own team. I really enjoy this aspect of my job. I’m really proud of my team and I enjoy seeing them develop and progress. I find it incredibly rewarding to be able to help my team improve their skills and create opportunities for them to progress and develop – I think that’s absolutely fantastic.

What’s it like working at Lidl?

I think it's amazing to work with different people, from different backgrounds. Yet we also have great communication. It’s fast-paced, very dynamic, it’s fun, but it’s also hard work. And every day is different. Sometimes work can be stressful, but we have such a great team that it’s enjoyable.

What does the future hold for you?

I want to stay with the company - I love Lidl. I think there is still a lot to learn in buying for me. I’m really keen to progress in Lidl, but I also I think there are loads of ways you can develop so I really want to challenge myself more. To get to more of a senior position, such as a team manager, would definitely be my next goal.

If you were to describe Lidl in four words what would you say?

I would say exciting, challenging, fun and dynamic.
