Meet Sophie, Warehouse Assistant Team Manager

My Lidl journey so far

I started as a Warehouse Operative in Selection- Ambient, where I worked for 5 months. In March/April of 2020, I was offered the opportunity to come and help out as an Operative in the Maintenance Department. This job was in some ways similar to the background I had come from, with a number of transferrable skills, so it seemed like a natural progression. After a few months, an ATM role became vacant, and so I applied for it!

Why I applied for my latest role

Right from day one at Lidl, I knew that it was the company I wanted to work for- I had previously been working for a family sized (around 20 employees) Renewable Energy company, but over many years, I came to realise that I craved the safety, security and sense of belonging that working for an international corporation could provide. As a teenager I worked at McDonald’s where I was fortunate enough to gain many years of management experience before returning to education as a mature student to gain my Domestic Plumbing and Heating qualifications. When the ATM Maintenance role became available, it seemed to be the perfect amalgamation of my previous experiences and I really felt that I could bring value not only to the department but to the RDC as a whole - so I applied for it, and here I am!

"I feel that progression opportunities at Lidl are second to none."

What I like most about my role

There are a lot of things I love about my current role. I think number one would have to be being able to build relationships with so many different people across the RDC, whilst helping to contribute to their successes. I love feeling like part of a team that has lots of different personalities and strengths which make our RDC successful, and I feel very lucky to be part of a team of such capable leaders. Number two would have to be the sheer variety of my role, from dealing with external contractors, to invoicing,  to helping the guys on my team repair and build things to improve the warehouse - no two days are the same!

My plans for the future

I plan to gain as much experience as I can from my Peers and Seniors, so that in the distant future I can progress to Team Manager and beyond. In the near future I hope to be able to experience a number of different departments across Logistics, to increase my chances of progressing through the Business.

What I think about progression opportunities at Lidl

I feel that progression opportunities at Lidl are second to none. If you are able to demonstrate diligence and the work ethic which is so crucial to Lidl’s success, I really feel the sky is the limit for you with this company.
