"Noticing that other colleagues around me were able to move to different teams and departments gave me the confidence to apply for the role and it was the best decision I’ve made."
Meet Sasha, International Reporting Officer
My Lidl journey so far
I started working at Lidl in March 2020, initially as a Team Secretary, where I supported my colleagues with reports, translations, and general ad hoc requests. As this was a new role, I was able to establish it myself and prove what my abilities were and how much I could take on. An example of this was reintroducing our monthly departmental meeting as a way to boost morale within the team and catch up with the latest news and projects.
During my six-month review I explained to my line manager that while I was thoroughly enjoying the role, I was keen to take on a new challenge. I had been working increasingly with the International Reporting team on the Business Intelligence side and found this work particularly stimulating. So, when my line manager explained that there was an opportunity to transition into the team, I jumped at the chance! The recruitment team made the application process really smooth and after a round of interviews, I was pleased to find out I had been successful.
Why I applied for my latest role
I knew I wanted to push myself further than administrative work and thought that an analytical role would not only be interesting, but also provide the challenge that I was looking for. The role would also involve using my German skills to speak to international counterparts – something that I was keen to continue.
"I really enjoy the investigative side of the role."
What I like most about my role
The main part of the role is focused on creating reports for the rest of the business and INT. Within these reports queries often arise from INT which we then have to look into. I really enjoy the investigative side of the role, finding where discrepancies come from and why. I am also really pleased to be able to use my German degree at work – every day there is some form of contact in German which not only challenges me further but makes sure my German stays strong.
My plans for the future
I’d love to continue my progression by taking on more responsibility and perhaps leading a team. I would also be keen to do an international transfer and experience working in the German Head Office!
What I think about progression opportunities at Lidl
I always knew when I joined Lidl that I wanted to progress my career, but I never thought it would happen so quickly! Noticing that other colleagues around me were able to move to different teams and departments gave me the confidence to apply for the role and it was the best decision I’ve made here. I look forward to continuing my professional growth with Lidl!
