"Leading my team and developing a good working relationship whilst achieving targets makes it a fulfilling role."
Meet Mark, Area Manager
My Lidl journey so far
I joined Lidl as a Deputy Store Manager in 2016 as part of the Belvedere region. It was my first retail career and was really fascinated with the fast-paced environment. It is a very hands-on role and I learned a lot from managing the business to leading my team. After 18 months, I moved back closer to my parents and joined the Exeter region. Still working as a Deputy Store Manager, but this time incorporating my London experiences to improve and support my new store. I realised how fulfilling the role is and wanted to stay in store and take on more responsibilities.
In 2019, I joined Southampton region and took on a new Store Manager role and led my own team. I managed two stores, both Bordon and Farnham, where I gained more store experiences on leading the business and people management. After a successful run, I was fortunate enough to be selected to partake a Trainee Area Manager assessment in Northfleet. The interview process and assessment were straight forward and the recruitment team was very helpful throughout the process.
This January 2021 marks my 5th year with Lidl and will be starting a new role as a Trainee Area Manager in Northfleet RDC.
Why I applied for my latest role
I have always valued training and sharing my knowledge and experiences to better achieve our target as a company. With this new role, I would be able to work and collaborate with a bigger team and do what I enjoyed the most.
"It may sound a cliché but no two days are the same."
What I like most about my role
I really enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, it keeps you on your toes. Leading my team and developing a good working relationship whilst achieving targets makes it a fulfilling role. It may sound a cliché but no two days are the same and dealing with daily challenges keeps me sharp with decision making.
My plans for the future
My main focus is to learn as much as I can as a Trainee Area Manager and to eventually have my own region of stores to look after. Working for and with the company gives me great pleasure. You will be seeing me here for years to come!
What I think about progression opportunities at Lidl
We are growing fast as a company and opportunities are endless. I would say learn as much as you can, stay focused and I am sure the right role will open up.
